Stonáč

On the outskirts of Kroměříž, in a quiet area near Bílany, you’ll find the short but remarkably interesting Stonáč educational trail. Stretching about one kilometre, the trail leads visitors through a natural monument that protects remnants of the original Haná wetlands. The main symbol of this protected area is the fire-bellied toad – a small frog with a strikingly orange belly. With a bit of luck, you might hear it or even catch a glimpse along the way.

The trail begins at the intersection of Jožka Silný and Bílanská streets and ends near a series of small ponds, where the area reconnects with the surrounding landscape toward the village of Bílany. Wooden information panels line the route, offering six stops that highlight local natural features and the hydrological significance of the site.

You’ll learn how these ponds were formed, which plants and animals inhabit them, and why wetlands like these are so important for the landscape. The trail is easy, with no elevation changes, and in dry weather it is accessible even for wheelchair users. It is a popular link between Kroměříž and Bílany, used not only by walkers but also by cyclists heading into the open landscapes of the Upper Morava Valley.
