Join Us in Remembering the Historic Meeting of Emperors

The meeting of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Russian Tsar Alexander III is forever etched in the history of Kroměříž and its Archbishop’s Palace, whose hospitality was graciously accepted by both rulers. Thanks to preserved documents, accommodation arrangements, programmes, and a wealth of period imagery, we can vividly imagine the atmosphere and grandeur of this significant event.

To mark the occasion, the Archbishop’s Palace in Kroměříž will present a special exhibition during the Imperial Days, running from 19 August to 2 November. Visitors can view unique exhibits including gifts from the imperial guests, commemorative medals, period photographs and paintings. A true highlight is a rare document signed by prominent members of both imperial families and their entourage. The historical ambiance will be enhanced by costumed guides, who will take visitors back in time.

You’ll even have a chance to experience the royal encounter firsthand during the city celebration The Meeting of Emperors, held on Sunday, 21 September. Both monarchs will return to Kroměříž in a festive parade and present the famous meeting and their era in an engaging and entertaining way on the Main Square. The event will also be linked with the International Competition of Traditional Carriages, featuring magnificent horse-drawn carriages.

And throughout the summer, you might just run into the emperor and the tsar themselves during the costumed toursSecrets of Old Kroměříž.
