COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUES

These plaques are installed to commemorate personalities or important events associated with a given location or place in town. Many modern plaques also have artistic significance. Simply raise your head while walking through the town and discover these places – who lived there, how they lived and what they created. Some of the plaques mark birthplaces, others commemorate deceased personalities, but most of them are associated with the participants of the Kremsier Assembly, which took place between the years 1848 and 1849. However, there are also plaques commemorating tragic events … such as the Stolpersteine (literally “stumbling stones”) which are placed right into the pavement all over the town. These concrete cubes, bearing a brass plate, commemorate Jewish victims of Nazi extermination during the Second World War.
