Svatý Hostýn
Hostýn hill, shrouded in many legends, has two peaks. On the lower western peak (718 m. s. l.) stands the Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (also known as Basilica minor) and pilgrims’ houses. On the higher northern peak (736 m. s. l.) stands a 15-metre-high lookout tower and a wind turbine. Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with a life size statue of the Virgin Mary is the dominant feature and the most frequently visited sight. From the Basilica minor, you can follow the Stations of the Cross, created by the architect Dušan Jurkovič. The path ends near the forest cemetery, where several personalities linked to Svatý Hostýn are buried. Svatohostýnské Museum is housed in one of the pilgrims’ houses and it is under the administration of the Matice svatohostýnská association. You can reach the Hostýn hill from several directions depending on your choice of difficulty of the route (from the town Bystřice pod Hostýnem, from the villages of Rusava, Chvalčov or Slavkov pod Hostýnem). On the way you can visit other interesting places in the vicinity, such as Pardus hill, mountain pasture Klapinov, or Skalný hill.
