VELKÉ TĚŠANY
Velké Těšany is a village surrounded by the forests of the Chřiby hills, located about 5 kilometres from Kroměříž. The most important sight is the windmill built in 1827, which is now under the administration of the Kroměříž Museum and has been listed in the Central List of Cultural Heritage. A beam that reached the ground was used to turn the mill. Later, a mechanical lifting device (a jack) or a horse engine were used instead. The mill was turned downwind so that the shaft of the wind vanes was perpendicular to the direction of the wind. The number of “sails” on the wind vanes also adjusted to the strength of the wind.
